The .grd/.GRD file extension may correspond to one of three common formats:

• ESRI grids => supported for import and export
• Geosoft grids => supported for import and export
• Surfer grids => unsupported for import and export

If you are having difficulties importing .grd files into Intrepid, make sure that they are not in the Surfer format.
